Most patients do not do a single veneer. They do the "smile zone" — the teeth visible when they talk — which is usually 8 to 10 upper teeth, sometimes extended to 20 if the lower arch is also treated. Spain pricing:

Why the price gap is so wide
Three variables drive almost all of it. In order of how much they move the number:
1. The ceramics laboratory
This is the one nobody talks about. The porcelain is not made by your dentist. It is made by a technician in a laboratory, working from impressions or scans the dentist sent. A low-cost clinic uses a high-volume lab that produces dozens of pressed veneers per day, shaded from a guide, turnaround in a week. A premium clinic uses a master ceramist who hand-layers each veneer across four to six hours, building translucency and characterisation the way enamel actually behaves.

2. The clinician's time and protocol
An average veneer case — from first consult to final bonded result — runs four to six appointments if done properly. Prep, temporary, shade verification, try-in, adjustment, bonding. Some clinics compress this to two appointments by skipping try-ins and photo protocols. Faster. Cheaper. More mistakes. If you have ever seen a veneer case where the front two teeth look different widths, that is what a skipped try-in looks like.
3. The materials themselves
Not all porcelain is the same material. Feldspathic porcelain (the oldest, most translucent) costs less as a raw material but requires more skill to layer. Lithium disilicate (e.max) is machine-millable and repeatable, mid-priced, widely used. Zirconia is strong but historically opaque — newer multilayer zirconias are improving. Custom layered systems, like the porcelain we use, sit above all of these on cost because they are handmade, batch-formulated, and not sold through catalogues.
Why the price gap between Spain and UK/US is structural — not quality
British and American patients flying in for consultation often ask the same question in the first 10 minutes: "Why is this so much cheaper?" The answer is not a shortcut. It is that UK and US dental pricing has been set by property costs, malpractice insurance, and compensation norms that look nothing like Spain's.
Three reasons Spain prices where it does:
- Lower clinic overhead. Marbella rent for a cosmetic-grade clinic runs roughly a third of London equivalents. Staff salaries follow the same pattern.
- Domestic ceramics labs at European quality. Spain has strong ceramics labs that supply to the whole EU; we don't need to ship to Germany for quality. Our own lab is in-house in Marbella.
- Malpractice insurance premiums 10-15x lower than the US. That alone accounts for $200-500 per-tooth in American cosmetic pricing.
None of those reasons reflect on what happens in the chair. The porcelain layering, the prep conservatism, the occlusion check, the try-in protocol — those are where cosmetic quality actually lives, and they are not cheaper in Spain. The price difference is in the economics around the work, not the work itself.
Why Turkey pricing looks different (and why it matters)
Turkey at €200-€450 per veneer is not "even cheaper Spain." It is a different product. Turkish volume clinics typically use heavy-prep zirconia crowns (often marketed as veneers), compressed into two appointments with 48-hour lab turnaround. The upfront saving is real. The five-year redo rate is meaningful, and most of the patients we see from those cases need the original teeth rebuilt — sometimes with root canals — before new veneers can be placed.

Spain at €600-€900 per tooth is not in the same product category as Turkey. The clinical protocol, the lab, the appointment count, and the clinician training are all different.

What the consult fee buys you
Before you pay for a single veneer, a serious cosmetic practice puts real time into the consultation — and prices it honestly, often €150-€400 elsewhere. That hour is where the case is actually decided. Candidacy assessment, shade photography, occlusion review, digital smile preview. Clinics that dangle an unconditional "free consultation" recover the cost somewhere less visible. Questions to ask before you pay anything
- Which ceramics laboratory is fabricating my veneers? A clinician who cannot name the lab is using a volume outsource. Not automatically bad, but informative.
- How many appointments is my case? Under four, something is being skipped.
- What material, specifically? "Porcelain" is not an answer. Feldspathic, e.max, zirconia, layered-custom — those are answers.
- Will there be a try-in appointment? If no, they are bonding whatever the lab sent back regardless of how it looks in your mouth.
- What is your redo rate at five and ten years? A clinician who has done this work for a decade knows their number. If they do not, they have not been tracking outcomes.
- Can I see photos of cases you did four or more years ago? Day-one photos are easy. Four-year photos separate the careful work from everything else.

Some patients arrive wanting veneers and leave with a different plan. Orthodontics first, veneers later, is the most common alternative — if your underlying issue is alignment, 8-12 months of clear aligners often solves the aesthetic concern without any enamel preparation. A conservative composite touch-up on one or two teeth can bridge a small gap cosmetically, though we do not place composite veneers as a smile-wide treatment — the aesthetic ceiling is materially lower than layered porcelain, and the lifespan is half.
